AARD Mining Equipment (Pty) Ltd

The business was established in 1983 as part of the Boart Longyear group of companies. The company was sold to the current shareholders – a consortium comprising Nedbank Capital Private Equity, Matasis Mining Equipment (a BBBEE group) and Management – in 2008, and the company was renamed AARD Mining Equipment. As a result, AARD is 65.39% black-owned (24.48% Black Women Ownership) and controlled, and has a Level 4 BBBEE rating.
AARD works diligently to maintain its BBBEE targets which are reviewed annually and the company is aiming at targets well beyond those set by current BBBEE legislation.
AARD designs, manufactures, services and supports our range of mining equipment in sub-Saharan Africa.
The company’s corporate office and manufacturing facility are based in Chamdor on the West Rand, approximately 55km from OR Tambo International Airport. AARD’s comprehensive product range of trackless mobile mining machinery (TM3) is used extensively on more than 30 base metal, precious metal, coal and diamond mines in sub-Sahara Africa. The directors of AARD have vast experience in the mining and financial sectors. Together, the members of the management team have 160 years of experience in the mining industry.
AARD’s highly-qualified engineering and technical teams can custom design and build bespoke machines to suit customer’s needs. Modifications and changes to existing equipment, as well as complete or partial rebuilds, can also be undertaken at the factory in Chamdor, Gauteng.
AARD continuously undertakes research and development into design and manufacture equipment that meets customer requirements for improving safety and productivity. AARD has teams strategically placed in the field to offer support to clients, service products and provide spare parts.
AARD’s products meet stringent SHREQ requirements and the company is proud of its safety record, ISO and OSHAS certifications.
AARD is primarily focused on South Africa and sub-Saharan Africa. However, the company also exports products from its range into Canada, the United States of America, Russia and Europe.
AARD is well represented in the field by a number of branches and satellite warehouses, and in sub-Saharan Africa by subsidiaries in both Zambia and Zimbabwe.
AARD currently employs some 240 full time staff at the Chamdor factory and in the regional sales and support divisions. HDSAs make up 60% of the workforce, and 14% of the workforce comprises women.
