Technology Availability & Readiness Atlas

The Mandela Mining Precinct has developed Technology Availability and Readiness Atlas, or TARA, to greatly improve the visibility of South African-manufactured mining equipment to the local mining industry and beyond. The current version already has a high level of search functionality, allowing visitors to find equipment by category filter, or keyword search. Currently over 130 offerings from local mining OEMs are uploaded and available for viewing by mining houses, with more items added on a regular basis. Items could be uploaded by an admin staff member, for approval at a higher level. The equipment listed already demonstrates the range, quality and sophistication of equipment that is locally available, and facilitates local procurement in line with Mining Charter III.

This platform is for use exclusively by MEMSA members, for free, and is open for registration and uploading of product information at https://miningtara.co.za/

To add equipment:
1. Sign Up (top right on the website); allow a day for the MMP to verify and confirm you as user.
2. Select equipment you would like to load, and prepare images and datasheets (or these can be added later, see 5.4.3 and 5.4.4 in the User Guide).
3. Upload equipment info, images and data sheets.
4. Ensure that you set visibility for each product to ‘public’ (small caps) once you are satisfied with its representation.
5. For products that are still under development, it is possible to use ‘Under development’ as product type, and provide limited information so protecting your IP while alerting potential partners.
Below you can download the TARA User Guide, TARA Equipment Compilation Sheet  and view the TARA Tutorial Webinar recording. The tutorial demonstrates how to register on the system, and upload equipment. It also shows how to format images and pdf factsheets correctly, using free online applications.
